Updated: Jul 3, 2019

With the academic year coming to a close, we say goodbye to one of the most unforgettable classes in the history of EGIS. Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 marked the graduation of our Year 12 students at the TU Berlin Campus here in El Gouna, and the awarding ceremony for those in Year 11. It was truly a beautiful ceremony, and with the help of the Year 10 students as ushers, management, and secondary staff, Mr. Karim managed to reward the year 12 pupils with the proper 'send-off' they deserved.

Graduates and graduands of EGIS gather at the TUBerlin campus courtyard for a snap together.

But first, let me take a selfie!

The celebration began with the graduates and graduands taking pictures with their classmates, parents, teachers and friends, wearing their cap and gowns.

A heart-felt message

The pupils began the ceremony, after the audience had been seated, by walking the processional march down the aisles, onto the stage. The ceremony began with the playing of the Egyptian and British anthems, followed by a motivational and heart-warming welcome speech by our beloved principal, Maha Shenouda; in which, she announced the upcoming journey to COBIS accreditation, which the school have already began, and the prestigious and elusive “wall of fame”.

A surprise performance!

The audience were delighted to see the Year 5 pupils make their way onto the stage and begin playing a special music piece for the ceremony. Mr. Amr, our Music teacher, and his pupils deserve much gratification for being able to arrange a surprise musical number and for performing it so flawlessly. On behalf of EGIS, we are proud to announce the first school band has been formed, the graduation gave the young students the opportunity to perform for the first time, and we congratulate them on their excellent achievement.

Awarding excellence

Ms. Amina, our Science teacher, announced the medal-awarding ceremony, and with the help of the board of directors, management, and teaching staff, awarded students from Year 11 and 12 - who achieved an A or an A* (or equivalent) in any of their selected subjects at iGCSE level - with medals for their hard work and exceptional effort throughout their academic years. The awarded students each posed for pictures, alongside their parents and teachers, proudly displaying their well-earned tokens of accomplishment.

Ms. Kelly, teacher of Business and English, then took to the stage to MC the awarding of Y12s 'Graduation Certificates' telling the audience each students personal accomplishment and academic plans for the near-future. One-by-one, graduates and graduands were applauded as they walked across the stage, receiving their Certificates of Graduation and thanking their teachers one last time.

A few words from Year 12

Valedictorian, Adam Al Ansary, reflected on the students' achievement in his inspiring speech, alongside fellow graduate, Mariz Yacoub “Graduation is an eye opener on how we are all capable of reaching our goals if we put our minds to it.” Inspired by the speech, we can confidently speak on behalf of our classmates when we say that no student can possibly wait to don the caps and gowns of our predecessors. After this moving address, the hall echoed with the voices of graduates and graduands reciting the school pledge.

Congratulations to Adam Al Ansary for receiving valedictorian and Nouran Hossam for receiving salutatorian, two very high honours. The teachers, parents and fellow pupils were very proud of the students’ attainment, dedication and accomplishments.

A touching tribute

A moving slideshow was prepared by Mr. Karim for the audience, graduates and graduands. A photo-reel of memories of the class we will never forget were projected on the big screen, leaving the audience feeling extremely nostalgic.

This year group has a unique relationship and have bonded like a family for as long as we can remember; they grew up together and have always been there for each other, even those who joined later on felt as if they were part of this family. This bittersweet parting was the perfect goodbye to our beloved class of 2019, hardly anyone could hold back their tears.

Congratulations class of 2019,

you made it, and we couldn’t be prouder!
